Jamendo - Free music for all

For the past few months, I've been getting more and more fed up with the recording industry and the stranglehold that they have on consumers. You've heard about Radiohead and the refreshing attitude they've taken toward their latest album, and NIN's recent departure from their former record label - both of whom I applaud and support whole-heartedly. But I recently discovered a new music "market" making a name for itself, and I'd like to help it along.

Child's Play 2008

To quote the Child's Play website, "Since 2003, over 100,000 gamers worldwide have banded together through Child's Play, a community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry." Created by the creators of the famous gaming comic Penny Arcade in 2003 and supported by the heart and spirit of the gaming community, this charity has donated over $3,000,000 to date to children's hospitals around the world.

Advertisements (Or the lack thereof)

I know how much I hate advertisements, and I imagine you feel the same, so you'll probably be glad to know that I've decided to keep my website advertisement free. (AdBlock Plus users [myself included] won't see any difference. :) ) There are actually a few reasons behind this decision:

  • I don't imagine I get enough visitors to actually make any money.
  • I'm very nervous that advertising will become the next big money-maker, and I don't want to contribute to that. I'd rather produce something that has value instead of plugging somebody else's thing of value.
  • I don't like Google very much, and I'm guessing that's the only place I'd be able to get advertisements.
